i am from the grassy fields
from ramen noodles and motocross
i am from big and cozy, the smell of bacon and eggs
i am from the rugged dirt and the white birch
the white birch alone, quiet and different than the others
i am from the get-togethers and baseball
from frederick and linda and isabelle
i am from the loving and the craziness
from “settle down” and “how was your day?”
i am from italy and czech – pasta and pierogies
from the united states – spiedies and coco rice krispies
i am from the friends who kept me together and
from my family supporting every bid of me.
